The University of Benin community and ASUU were yesterday thrown - TopicsExpress

The University of Benin community and ASUU were yesterday thrown into mourning, when the sad news of the untimely death of former ASUU president and current HOD of Business Administration & Mgt UNIBEN Prof. Festus Iyayi filtered in.Indeed the struggling of the gentle comrade in ensuring a better academic environments in our universities ended on a rather tragic note. Its even more painful that the lingering ASUU strike claimed its second casualty because the first casualty has to be the Nigerian students.I strongly believe this ugly incident would have an infinitesimal effect on the stance of ASUU National Executive meeting today in Kano.Though my heart is heavy but i have not come in its heaviness because emotions are known to ultimately becloud judgement and that is what i have come to do today,to judge our national malady.Prof. Iyayis death was totally avoidable because he died as a result of dangerous driving by the convoy of Kogi state Gov. Capt. Idris Inua Wada. For God sake, how long shall we continue to waste precious lives as a result of unnecessary high speed by Governors convoy?.Most of these politicians break the speed limit and traffic regulations have continually been flouted with impunity.I see this as complete irresponsible and a real knack of wanting to terrorizing other road users by these politicians. This is the same Governor that had a ghastly accident early this year, luckily for him he escaped death by a whisker, while his police ADC died instantly. It seems he has not learnt any lesson.Cant we take a cue from the British Prime minister,David Cameron,he goes out with a car and an outrider. Its shameful that we have no moral code of acceptable behaviour. Our political leaders illegalities daily triger provocation. My heart goes to the family of Iyayi, his fellow commrades in the struggle and the people of Edo state
