The University of Cambridge, in association with Boeing has successfully flown the first aircraft powered by a parallel hybrid-electric propulsion system, where an electric motor and petrol engine work together to drive the propeller. The aircraft can also recharge its batteries in flight. Based on the Gramex Song single seat microlight, the aircraft has a MTOW of 235kg and fits into the UK SSDR category.
