The VSS Enterprise is down. She suffered a mid-flight explosion over California two days ago, and broke apart. Of her two-man crew, there is one survivor: co-pilot Michael Alsbury was killed on impact; pilot-in-command Peter Siebold was seriously injured. Her carrier craft, VMS Eve, was able to land safely with all hands. This is a dark day for sled jockeys the world over - and over the world - at sea where they find their origins; aloft where they take their baby steps; and in orbit where few, for now, can aspire to tread. But we must not, and we will not, look away. Sea, air, and space; these things are hard, but worth it. Thanks, Mike. Good luck, and godspeed.
