The Vampire Diaries: Supernatural Tricks They Should Use More Often Being a supernatural being on The Vampire Diaries means many different things for many different creatures, but the one guarantee is that you’re practically guaranteed supernatural abilities. For example, vampires can compel humans, werewolves can sniff out vampires (and win arm wrestling contests), and witches can do just about anything. And yet, we still don’t know the extent of these powers, nor do we understand why they don’t use all of their abilities more often. During the past four seasons, there have been quite a few instances in which a power would’ve come in handy, and there have been quite a few powers that we had no idea even existed. Here’s what we’re talking about: Mind-reading: When Sage showed up in Season 3, she got Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to put Rebekah (Claire Holt) in a relaxed state in order to read her mind and then, in turn, give Rebekah’s thoughts to Damon during a hot shower makeout session. (Why not, right?) Is this a Sage-specific trick? Because this would be incredibly useful in any number of situations in Mystic Falls. Flying: Vampires have amazing jumping abilities that they don’t use those enough. If you think back to the pilot, Stefan full-on launched himself at his brother, and the two flew out the window of the house. In the same episode, Damon leaped spectacularly when he killed the couple at the very beginning. How many times could they have hopped away from a situation at this point? Fog: Sure, it might have been a little cliché, but Damon’s use of fog could have been useful in certain situations. Plus, if he could manipulate fog and a crow, are there other elements of nature or animals the vamps could use to their advantage? Super-hearing: As often as this trick is used, there are more times when it isn’t. We can’t count the number of conversations had in the Salvatore house when a vampire was present in another room, which means they can hear, right? After all, that’s how Stefan (Paul Wesley) found out about Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) love for Damon in the Season 4 finale. Just sayin’. Super-speed: On that note, there have been way too many times when we have seen Stefan or Damon jog, usually when desperately trying to save Elena. Vampires don’t jog. They zip around. Come on, guys. You should know this by now. The invisible witch: In Season 2, Luca and his father tried to save Elijah (Daniel Gillies) by sending an invisible Luca into the Salvatore mansion. He could’ve easily killed Katherine (Nina Dobrev) if he didn’t have horrible aim. Everyone knows there’s nothing scarier than an opponent you can’t see. And then, of course, Silas rocked our world when he came into town with his psychic abilities. There’s no end to the possibilities on this show. But which supernatural abilities do you think should be used more often?
