The WSJs print headline: United Continental Is Still One Sick Bird. This is not surprising news for most of us who have booked flights with United in recent months. All but two of my last eight flights have been delayed by at least an hour. Here in Cleveland, where United recently closed its hub, many flights that used to be direct now take a big chunk of the day with connecting flights. From the story by WSJ reporter Susan Carey: Nearly four years after United Continental Holdings Inc. began its bumpy takeoff as a merged airline, it still is struggling to reach cruising altitude. The No. 2 U.S. airline by traffic recently placed second from the bottom among conventional network carriers for the third straight year in J.D. Powers annual North American Airline Satisfaction Study. After a profitable 2013, United posted a loss for this years first quarter. According to the Transportation Department, it was sixth among 12 carriers for on-time flight arrivals in March, the most recent data published. It also ranked eighth in baggage handling, and accounted for more than a quarter of the airline complaints that consumers filed with the government that month.
