The Way of the Aarif and the Way of the Aalim (The Way of the Spiritual Seeker and the Way of the External Scholar) Imam Malik rehemtullah Ahley (94-179 H./716-795 CE) said, “Whoever studies jurisprudence (fiqh) and didn’t study Sufism (tasawwuf) will be corrupted; and whoever studied tasawwuf and didn’t study jurisprudence will become a heretic; and whoever combined both will be reach the Truth.” This saying is mentioned and explained in the book of the scholar ‘Ali al-Adawi with the explanation of Imam Abil-Hassan, a scholar of jurisprudence, vol. 2, p. 195. Because Only they (those who are up on Fiqh and Tasawwuf) are guided by the Book of Allah, says Quran: 2:2 This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - Allah Says again: Quran: 2:5 Those are upon [right] guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.
