The Weekend Programme of 15th to 16th of March This weekend the students of the first year enjoyed the weekend thanks to a day trip on Saturday, to the two famous towns in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) - Jilemnice and Vrchlabí. In spite of the bad weather, the students liked the trip, particularly thanks to the visits of museums in both towns where they were introduced to the history of both towns, learned some interesting information about the Harrach family and a story of how skis got into Bohemia. Vrchlabí museum offered them interesting visual display on the traditional architecture, carpentry and textile works. On Sunday, the students worked on a project of their choice about the Giant Mountains in which some made posters on both museums, some made a guide for teenagers and some got inspired by the traditional Giant Mountains’ industry - textile industry and decided to translate a fairy tale of How the Little Mole got His Trousers with editing subtitles to the Czech animated film. On the other hand, the students of the second and third year were working on the theme of Great Britain. They learned about the climate, geography, currency, population, demography, etiquette, Bank holidays and the Special days of the year and about the University education there. On Saturday afternoon, the students wanted to watch a movie about one of the most famous and controversial Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, named ‘The Iron Lady’. On Sunday, this theme of Great Britain continued with students discovering all the hidden gems, such as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales through interactive activities such as matching factual information together, listening to audio recordings or watching short documents about the different parts of the UK, with each of the video being spoken by some famous native speaker and as a consequence, they had a chance to compare various accents and pronunciations.
