The White Puma - R. D Lawrence (1991) This was an instant classic when it was first published, and remains so today. It follows a family of pumas, tracked by hunters and poachers and rich people who hire professional hunters for a white rug and a head on their wall mounted to a shiny wooden plaque. It is told through eyes of the pumas. I just reread it because it moved me so profoundly I can never forget it. I was about ten or eleven at the time I found this novel.
