The Wilaayah (becoming a Walee) in a nutshell #8: 8. Unlike Prophethood and Messengership, Wilaayah (sainthood) is not limited to men only (this is the general meaning of the Aayah). Moreover, there are women who have exceeded a lot of men in righteousness. (Example: Maryam عليها السلام, Khadeejah, `Aaishah, the Prophet’s daughter Faatimah رضي الله عنهـن etc.). [But as said earlier, a woman - irrespective of her righteousness - still needs a male guardian in order to get married].
