The Wood Whisperer just posted this clip showing a very cool industrial way to make wood bowls. There is a product on the market called the Woodcut bowlsaver, which is basically a smaller version of the same tooling. Just wondering if anyone here has ever tried to make drum shells using a similar method. Surely it must be possible to develop some cutting tool for a lathe that could do the same sort of thing to make cylinders. Just think how many different sized shells you could make from a 24 dia piece of tree trunk! Interesting that they steam the wood for a while, to help it dry out more evenly. Never heard of that before!
