The Word For The Day “For the grace of God has appeared that brings salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Titus 2:11-14. The grace of God teaches us to say “No” to the way we us to live permanently. Living godly is not something that we can do at our leisure. When we say yes to God’s grace we are saying yes to being dedicated and committed to living “self-controlled, upright and godly” today and everyday not just when we feel like it. I asked my grandniece to give me a hug this morning. She shook her head no. I asked, “You’re not going to give me a hug?” Again she said no. I said ok and went about what I was doing. The sting of hearing those words did not feel good. What came to my mind was, ok since she said no to what I asked of her I will do the same when she asks something of me. Sounds selfish and childish doesn’t it but, if we are honest with ourselves is that not how we think and act when someone offends us, hurts us, doesn’t live up to our expectations or do things the way we want them to do it? My sin can get this selfish, childish and small. Keep in mind sin is sin; there is no degree in it. It is a show of disrespect toward God and must repented of. That is why; for yesterday, today and tomorrow we have the hope of him being our redeemer. His grace is teaching us to do what is right in the eyes of himself, “our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ”. The grace of God is teaching us to live godly. It has convinced us that this is God’s will for our lives. If we were not convinced would we not still be living the way we use to live? There would have been no need for change. Will we be perfect? No, but I believe there is a sincere willingness in those who want to change and grow spiritually. His grace will always teach if we allow it my question to you is: Is there anything in your life that God’s grace is teaching you to say “No” to? To God Be the Glory! “Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.” 2Tim. 2:7
