The World Summit on Indigenous Philanthropy, a 3-day event that follows the UN Conference on Indigenous Peoples kick-started yesterday with an Award Ceremony and performances by Heather Henson and Company, accompanied by dancers from the Northeast Two-Spirit Society. The event, held at the Marriott Hotel in Brooklyn, is bringing together thought leaders, philanthropists, donor agencies, and Indigenous visionaries with the purpose of creating actions that will take indigenous philanthropy to the next level. As part of the summit’s award ceremony, the Sacred Fire Foundation presented their Annual Wisdom Fellowship Award to Tarcila Rivera Zea, a Quechuan activist from Ayacucho, Peru and founder and executive director of Chirapaq, an indigenous association based in Lima. Tarcila Rivera Zea was one of the twelve recipients of The Ford Foundation Visionaries Award back in 2011.
