The Yell County Mounted Patrol is just back from a rescue on Hwy - TopicsExpress

The Yell County Mounted Patrol is just back from a rescue on Hwy 27, 3 miles south of Dardanelle. This was an accident with an overturned horse trailer with 1 horse trapped. One of the horses legs was sticking through the wall slats on the trailer. After about a 45 minute extrication, we were able to remove the horse from the trailer. The horse is doing great!!! The trailer? Not so much... The horse ended up with some minor cuts on its legs. They appear to have only cut the skin and did not damage any muscles. A big thank you to Dr. Chris Merritt and Dr. John Davis. They came out and kept the horse sedated while we worked on getting her cut out. Some volunteers also provided two tractors. We got under the trailer and were able to cut out the wall that the horse was lying on. After that, we used the tractors to lift the rest of the trailer off of the horse. Normally, we cant tell you any of the stuff we do or anything about the patients condition. However, horses are not covered under Federal HIPPA regulations, so its fine for us to tell you details about the rescue.
