The Yuma area represents one of the few instances resembling a success with respect to border security because of the strict enforcement of immigration laws. Its not complicated to figure out. But just recently Yuma County Sheriff Leon Wilmot alerted me that he had been informed by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona that they will cease prosecuting first time illegal border crossers. This misguided change in enforcement will completely undermine the United States zero tolerance policy established through Operation Streamline and flies in the face of years of work conducted by federal, state, and local law enforcement to secure our communities and our borders.
