The advocate from Kurla, who was booked on Saturday for allegedly posting defamatory comments against a minority community on a social networking site, has not yet been arrested. The police said Vijay Gaikwad had denied posting the comment and that they are taking the help of the cyber cell to crack the case. The post has been blocked following a request from the police. After the alleged post surfaced on the site, a mob descended on the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg (RAK) police station, demanding Gaikwads arrest. The complainant, advocate Moin Khan, who is on Gaikwads friends list on Facebook, said senior police officers, including deputy commissioner Ashok Dudhe, had promised on Saturday to arrest the accused in 24 hours. Activist Raj Awasti had threatened that the protest at the police station would intensify on Monday if the accused was not arrested by then. The police have sought the cyber cells help to trace the internet protocol (IP) address from where the comment was posted. Gaikwad has been booked under sections 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious act), 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the IPC, as well as sections 66(A) and 67 of the Information and Technology Act, 2000. We are proceeding cautiously as it is a very sensitive issue, senior inspector S Inalkar said. The Palghar police had in 2012 booked two girls under the IT Act for posting and liking a comment against the shutdown in the city after Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackerays death.
