The agenda for the August 26th meeting includes certifying property tax levies at a total of 5.75 mills for homestead properties and 18 mills for non-homestead properties. Residents who rent their home pay the higher non-homestead tax rate as part of their rent. I do not feel it is appropriate to charge those who are unable to afford to own their own home more in school taxes merely because they have been forced to rent. As such I will vote in favor of certifying the homestead rate, but will vote against certifying the non-homestead millage rate.
