The amplification of sensory input in autistic individuals causes chaos for those individuals. The image, sound, touch, taste or something we might smell, are instant attractions. This is followed by an overload in that sensory input of other inputs from that initial spark of interest. The input of this sense, sparks new input around you to come rushing in, your memory of past inputs come rushing in, maybe even new and different or blended input is added. Now from extremely focused this becomes chaotic, sensory overload and anxiety bring most to almost uncontrollable actions to stop the obsession. This is why we stim, to break the chain of events. Some flay, some draw, some write, play music, read obsessively or talk a lot to release. RJK
