The amputations begin in childhood. The breast is replaced by the pacifier, living milk by ‘formula’. These amputations and their ill-purposed replacements are relational and biocognitive. They attack the body’s developmental potentials directly, replacing opportunities with templates for disease. They distort and prescribe the emotional, creative, hueristic and intellectual assets we might otherwise selectively discover or develop. The amputations continue, advertised as progress — -against disease-. This template gets translated into our relationships with language, knowledge... the basic character and activities of our cultures begin to replicate this paradigm back into the population, and catastrophes emerge. Cascades of them. But what fares worst of all is our own intelligence — our fundamental perspectival and learning assets. They cannot survive or enjoy their proper developmental range while competing to simply find a context in which they can survive or flourish, however briefly. Art, literature, childhood, the family, the academy, the environment... all co-opted, amputated, represented and re-represented back to us in trance-like epiphanies of uplift or liberation dressed in technological finery. The actual cargo is prison, dismemberment, and powerless blindness that progresses with each failure to detect these processes and the forces that drive them. We cannot detect the amputations, in part, because their earliest assaults are on those assets that can and would otherwise reject them. Even our early resistance in childhood and adolescence is co-opted against us. Those who would be revolutionaries become the guards of prisons and the armies of the elite, instead of radical minds capable of actually delivering the progress their parasitic impostors never deliver — at ever increasing costs. It takes time to shave us down to compliance, but our intelligence... what we see ourselves and each other with, this is the most precious and delicate asset. Its preservation or nurturance, which must be always and everywhere creative and active, is the only possible antidote to a future of endless amputations, dismemberments and assaults on the fundamental bases of life, relation, health, wonder, and intelligence. It takes time to shave us down to compliance, but like a tree whose pruning triggers suddenly explosive growth — we can actually leverage the forces that oppress us to produce the momentum, complexity, acceleration and enthusiasm necessary to transform them into something more like their astonishingly accessible compliments. Human intelligence: it’s the new frontier in a desert of endless machines. — an a i
