These individuals could be distinguished as outsiders by “their faces, accents, and external appearance.” “That is without mentioning that these new arrivals are usually armed […] and continuously look around,” the source added. “These are signs that do not show up with local residents, who know their areas and do not ask passersby for directions.” “Today we felt that Damascus had become an Iranian province,” Azzam, a resident of Al-Shagour Street, told Enab Baladi. “It’s [something] we feel every day, but today [the] street was covered with Shiite slogans, which we aren’t used to.”
