The appeal of libertarianism is that it is simple, consistent, and easy. It is also radically unconservative, politically infeasible, and would result in awful public policy. Because actual conservatives have failed to articulate well-rounded, non-libertarian conservatism with any clarity for several decades, libertarians are, effectively, the only advocates left standing for limited government, meaningful checks and balances, and limits to state power.
