The armies of the French Revolution sought to bring liberation to the European continent on the tips of their bayonets. The British Empire sought to bring organization and civility to the world through their economic expansion. The Soviet Union sought to develop equality and end aristocracy through forced communization. The Red Chinese have blended British bureaucracy with Communist government enforced economic leveling. Perhaps we should learn the lesson laid bare by all of those failures. Everyone does not share the same vision of liberty. Not everyone aspires to a shared ideal of economic opportunity. As the sole remaining Superpower maybe we should just stop trying to bring everyone the opportunity we cherish. Lets consider allowing those folks in Eastern Europe to fight off the Russians for themselves. Perhaps we should allow the Muslim extremists to torment the people of the Middle East for a couple of decades so they will learn to stand up for themselves instead of taking advantage of our assistance then shooting us in the back on our way out. Maybe Afghanistan should just be allowed to remain a wasteland of tribal fighting and near prehistoric agricultural subsistence. Im starting to find the idea of isolationism very appealing...
