Krystle Brewer and Mary Moeller will be talking about an exhibition that they recently curated in Norman entitled “Selfie: An Exhibition on Identity.” The selfie fills feeds on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram globally. Most people see them as merely narcissism to try to garner likes and retweets. But this panel will delve deeper into the phenomenon to discuss the selfie as a possible valid art form. “Selfies & Identity” is part of a series of panels called FREDTalks, the museum’s take on the ever-popular internet TED talks. “FREDTalks are informal conversations about creativity, usually featuring several speakers who present for 10-15 minutes each, followed by Q&A,” said Susan Baley, director of education at the museum. The FREDTalks series began in the fall semester of 2013. Past subjects have included discussions on journey, blasphemy, migration, and placemaking.
