The article below was an interesting read, mostly because Snowden fled to Hong Kong and then took asylum in Russia with plans to relocate to South America. As many of us know, China and South America have long standing ties to Soviet Russia/Communism. While Snowdens actions helped shed light on U.S. government activities that most people find appalling, I dont think his intentions were as genuine as we all believed. He was either a Russian agent to begin with or he was covertly recruited by Russia in an attempt to create civil and global disgust with the American government. If you thought the Cold War ended with Reagan, youre either naive or in denial. Given Russias recent actions in Ukraine, and Putins actions and life in general, Russia is an incredibly serious threat to world peace. But then again, so is the United States. Since World War 2, Russia and the United States have publicly feigned a truce towards each other yet both have quietly been fighting by proxy--maybe a little less quietly during the height of the Cold War. At some point that conflict will become direct, and given Russia and Putins increased disregard for Western threats, I think were getting closer to something pretty severe. So Snowden may be trying to be perceived as a noble patriot, but ultimately I always thought there was something off about him. This is a great opportunity for an ethical debate. While his actions have informed Americans of the severity of NSA and federal surveillance, his intentions for revealing that information are now in question. If the intent was to aid Russia in their continued anti-American PR campaign then Snowden is a traitor to the American people. After all, Putin is a personality similar to Hitler. He believes his people are superior and that all others do not matter/are a disease to humanity. Any actions by a person like that to disrupt or destroy another foreign power are the building blocks towards a military campaign intended for world supremacy. Reclaiming strategic territories previously occupied by Soviet Russia will be Putins first militaristic move, and Ukraine is a troubling example of what Putin has in mind. Im willing to bet that other former Soviet states will be in need of liberation by their true homeland, Russia, and thats exactly how Putin will spin it.
