The attitude with which you ask Jesus Christ to come into your life, and your attitude as you experience Jesus Christ daily will determine the effect Jesus Christs presence will have in your life. Make no mistake, Judas also had a relationship with Christ, yet his end serves as a warning to all. Judas did not let go of his opinions, interests, and his old ways, but continued to be with Jesus for his personal gain. You can not come to Jesus with an unrepentant heart, be self willed all through your relations with Him and continue to live by your own ways and the ways of the world and expect to have eternal life. Unless you repent- change your mind for the better, heartily amend your ways, with abhorrence of your past sins (Matthew 4:17), and deny yourself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget yourself and your own interests] and take up your cross and follow Jesus [cleave steadfastly to Him, conform wholly to His example in living and, if need be, in dying, also] (Matthew 16:24), you will continue to be the old creature you were before you met Jesus and you will not grow as a new creature. The old creature, with all its opinions, desires, interests and ways of life must die for you to take up the opinions, desires, interests, and ways of life of Jesus Christ. You must repent- change your mind for the better, heartily amend your ways with abhorrence of your past sins, else you will continue to indulge and delight in your past sins and continue to walk in your past ways (the ways of darkness). You must deny yourself [disregard, lose sight of, and forget yourself and your own interests] and take up your cross and follow Jesus [cleave steadfastly to Him, conform wholly to His example in living and, if need be, in dying, also] else you will live as you have always lived doing the very things you have always done which were characteristics of the old creature you were. After your repentance from sin and your being born again by the Holy Spirit you must realize you have a new Spiritual body which must grow into full maturity. The new you must not be controlled by the world and its dictates. The new you (new creature) must be controlled and guided by Jesus (The Word of God-The Truth) and The Holy Spirit. Remember; when you were born into the world in the flesh, your way of life was fashioned after and determined by the ways of those around you and the societies you were born into (The world). As a born again believer, God has given you a perfect role model in His Son, Jesus Christ, and you must learn from Him and grow into His Likeness. Your being born again means you have been ingrafted in Christ and it is essential that you grow in Christ. You have been ingrafted into righteousness and you must grow in righteousness, you have been ingrafted into holiness, and you must grow in holiness, you have been ingrafted into godliness and you must grow in godliness. The scripture clearly defines this when it says: -Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17. You are a new creature in Christ, and must grow in Christ into His Likeness. As a baby in the flesh knows nothing but what he sees and is taught by the world around Him, you must feed your new Spiritual body with the pure spiritual milk of The Word of God and grow (1 Peter 2:1-5). Always remember; your old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away, a fresh new moral and spiritual condition has come. Your fresh new moral and Spiritual condition must be fashioned after The Truth (The Word of God) and is guided by the Holy Spirit as you grow in righteousness for that is the purpose for which God breathed His Word, to train you in righteousness. -Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The scriptures must train you and make you Gods own workman recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that you may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for you [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that you should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for you to live](Ephesians 2:10).
