The auction may be over but the battle goes on with a looming court hearing about the unbranded wild horses. And what a valiant fight it is with advocates, lawyers and tens of thousands of ordinary folks lining up saying no to Goliath, our out of control governmental agencies. Our battle worn boots-on-the-ground advocates may get weary upon occasion but I also notice something else: they are getting smarter. Smarter about the whole process and the fact we will not be able to save all the horses unless we pass national legislation. So how can the rest of us help push the SAFE Act through? Oh, I know we have petitions, upon petitions, and phone days and email blitzes, and law suits, all things that are building momentum. But based on successful movements over the last 100 years we are still lacking in how we deal with Washington’s politics. To put it bluntly they are playing football on steroids while we have been playing badminton. Its time to save our nickels, dimes and quarters and push them all into a PAC, hire some slick pit-bull lobbyists and jump in the game in a big way. None of us want to, no can we, keep fighting battles like we did today.
