The autism community came together for the annual Blue Jean Ball in Rehoboth Beach Convention Center again this year Sept. 20, and buzzed with excitement over the evening’s talent. Opening for long-time Blue Jean Ball favorite Love Seed Mama Jump was the two-person musical group Just Us. Both front man Alan Fogleman and drummer Anthony Benevento have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Joining Dewey Beach’s own Love Seed Mama Jump on stage this year was James Matthew Johnson (aka “M-Perfect,”) who also has ASD. “The band recently met with Matt after hearing of his performing arts pursuits in Delaware, despite his challenges with autism,” said Matt’s mother, Beverly Johnson. “The band wanted the chance to jam with him and felt the Blue Jean Ball would provide the medium in which M-Perfect could stand as an example for others.” “I think this is the first time we’ve enjoyed so many talented people with autism at the Blue Jean Ball,” noted Autism Delaware Events Manager Deanna Principe. “We are grateful that they chose the Blue Jean Ball to showcase their talent while helping us fundraise.” The event raised funds to support the growing number of people who need Autism Delaware’s programs and services statewide. Eager to support the cause, local businesses and individuals donated goods and services that were either enjoyed by the evening’s more than 300 partygoers or sold in the event’s live and silent auctions. Buzz was also generated by the featured live auction item, an acoustic guitar signed by American country singer Luke Bryan.
