The bad news: I woke up stupidly early after only about three hours of sleep. The good news: I got my taxes done, made the quiz for my class today, and read another fifty pages of Joyce Carol Oatess THE ACCURSED, which is a po-mo literary novel that plays with the gothic/horror genre in some similar ways that THE DOORS YOU MARK ARE YOUR OWN is a po-mo literary novel that plays with the sci-fi/post-apocalyptic genre. There are tons of differences, obviously, the key among them being that hers is perfect genius, but its nice to see yet another hugely successful novel that blends literary tropes with genre tropes. (It seems like there have been about dozen or so in the past couple years.) Final analysis: The good news will outweigh the bad news if I can squeeze in a small nap here soon, so I can have enough energy for a full, happy, and productive day.
