The bankruptcy of compulsive Modi bashing As Modi - TopicsExpress

The bankruptcy of compulsive Modi bashing As Modi appears set to become Indias next premier, Modi-bashing seems to have entered a new zone. It is no longer about Modi being communal or his development model being a farce. Now, it is about him, the person. So while one set of propagandists never cease to assert how Modi is dangerous to the idea of India, the other set of die-hard Kejriwal supporters enjoy the delusional trip of Modi being scared of Kejriwal. Needless to say, Modis critics, flustered and hopeless as they stand today, dont realize that they are yet again contradicting themselves. I mean, if Modi is indeed so dangerous, why would he be scared of Kejriwal? Or are they suggesting that Kejriwal is more dangerous than Modi? Let me explain why Modi cant be dangerous for the country. I have mentioned in an earlier article how Modi had the option of either raking up communal sentiments at the Patna Rally last year after being told about the blasts or simply backing off and letting panic and stampede take over. Instead his deft handling of the rally where he did not once mention the blasts, saved many lives. Today, Modi has embarked upon a non-stop month and a half campaign wherein he would be addressing nearly 200 rallies, many of them in remote districts of the country. One look at his itinerary will tell you that it is perhaps the most gruelling exercise any Indian leader has taken so far. For a man who is the no. 1 target of multiple terror outfits to risk his life in this manner bears testimony to his courage and determination. And Kejriwal still likes to believe that Modi can be scared of him? Arent Kejriwal and his team living in a delusional world? I do understand that people are upset over the perceived ill treatment that has been meted out to some senior BJP leaders and hence fear that Modi doesnt respect his seniors or colleagues. Well, for a leader, who hates to lose, it is always a tricky issue to choose the right winning combination. Hasnt Dhoni so often been accused of favouritism? But can anybody dispute Dhonis winning intentions? I think the challenge over here is to set aside what Modi is in his personal space. So long as he is committed to deliver the goods for the country and the party, the rest need not matter much at the moment. Well, then, is personality cult a good thing for a political party? Ideally, it is not. But then, the contribution of Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and some of the BJP leaders in creating this personality cult cant be overlooked. Let me explain what I mean. The intense resentment against the UPA is not a recent phenomenon. It had been building up from 2010 ever since the 2G scam first got exposed. The indifferent Congress leadership, either in its naivete or arrogance or perhaps both, under-estimated how much the masses had begun to hate it. In this situation, either of the 5 or 6 top leaders of the BJP cold have taken the lead in challenging the Congress. What prevented them from exploiting the social media the way Modi did? What prevented them from taking out country-wide yatras the way Advani had done through the 1990s? Modi has earned the place that he enjoys today and not usurped it, as his critics like to believe. Even today, he is the only one among PM hopefuls who has spelt out his plans to curb inflation or to improve the countrys infrastructure. I think the Price Stabilization Fund that he is talking about is a great idea even though I am personally not convinced about the need for 100 new towns. Id much rather have preferred initiatives to encourage reverse migration and so bring all cities at par in terms of existing infrastructure. While one may have individual differences over his approach, even a semi-honest adversary would admit that Modi means business; that he is consumed with a passion to change India for better, like few others have in them. And if one still thinks Modi is dangerous, let me reassure you Modi cant be as dangerous as Indira Gandhi who subverted democracy and imposed Emergency just to ensure she continued as PM. Modi cant be as dangerous as Manmohan Singh who prides himself as an erudite economist of integrity but has no qualms or regrets in letting his ministers loot the country at will. Modi cant be as dangerous as Sonia Gandhi who is counted among the richest women in the world today, without anybody questioning or probing her meteoric, unexplained financial rise. Modi cant be as dangerous as Kejriwal who employed his 49 day stint as CM of Delhi to befool people with unrealistic promises and quit when he couldnt prolong the game any further. If Kejriwal and AAP have something to fear, it is Kejriwals inconsistency. You started off fighting corruption. Then you fought Modi, then the media. Now, you guys are fighting the truth. You want instability over the next 5 years to prove your presence. Let your negativity not get the better of you. Instead utilize these 5 years to emerge as a responsible Opposition party.
