The basic premise of Dharma : Ones identification with the body - TopicsExpress

The basic premise of Dharma : Ones identification with the body (organism) leads to division of oneself from the nature that has brought forth this body and conflict is the natural and inevitable outcome of division. The recommendation is that one has to overcome existential problem of identification with the body. Now, what are the origins of the crystallization of ones identity, which appears so natural, that one never questions it ? Is it social conditioning ? Is it in response to various stimuli ? Is it in the very genes themselves ? The inevitability of conflict sounds very much like Darwinism, but there is a difference and the difference is that the conflict is not merely external. The conflict according to Dharma is both within and without...the external conflict being merely a symptom of the malady which is basically internal.
