The beautiful month of Ramadan is fast approaching (iA). My sister-friend, Haqiqah Abdul-Rahim did such an eloquent job of describing what it means to us, I wanted to share it with all.... Greetings of Peace, The countdown to Ramadan is at about 49 days or so. Its like an old friend that you love to have come for a visit. You prepare especially for the visit and by the time the visit is over youre totally exhausted but refreshed, rejuvenated, and reinvigorated all at the same time. When you think back over the month a smile comes across your soul. The month of fasting for Muslims all over the world begins each day with the first thread of light in the morning (about an hour and a half before sunrise) till sunset. The month ends with a special 3 day holiday and in some places the party continues. So we get up super early to eat before the morning prayer then fast all day, no food or drink, then eat after sunset then pray again. On the west coast here in California (ruffly) 4:15am till about 8pm. Ramadan is so much more than fasting though. Its reading 1/30th of the Holy Quran each day till its done 29 or 30 days later , visiting with family, friends and sharing of gifts. Doing as many good deeds as we can think of, like visiting the elderly and the sick, helping a neighbor, all to seek the blessings of the month. With a smile on my face, I am thinking of you one and all with a prayer may God bless each and everyone.
