The bells jar me awake at 1:30 am and I bound out of my bunk, - TopicsExpress

The bells jar me awake at 1:30 am and I bound out of my bunk, slide down the pole and race to truck 403. I throw on my bunker gear just before we blast out of our bay into the darkness. A townhouse fire across town dispatch has announced and as we hurdle past my sleeping neighborhood I hear our sirens echo off the trees. Alas we are soon waved off the race and our flashing lights go dark as our big red beast turns around and lumbers liesurely back to the station. The wailing sirens are replaced by the smooth baritone voice of a soothing country music tune on our stereo as my adrenaline slowly backs down to normal. As I hop out of my bucket I smile slightly as I realize that I still am not fully awake... I dont reach full alertness unfortunately until after I climb the stairs and fall back into my bunk. In just a few hours I will be sitting at my desk doing the job that pays my bills a little groggy but still happy that my night that was routine for Truck 403 was still a thrill for this office working citizen...
