The benchmark for assessment of political office holders and - TopicsExpress

The benchmark for assessment of political office holders and seekers, especially legislative offices, should ONLY be that of Competence and not sentiments, Performance and not production/personalised stomach projects, Legislative vibrancy for the good of all and not turn-by-turn/queue in-line shit analysis. I have just read the post of Sulaimon Mojeed Sanni, without discountenancing your brilliant shit analysis in preaching decorum, moderacy and giving others opportunity to express themselves in the society, I doubt if it fits the Ikorodu LAHA Constituency 1 and Ikorodu in general political situation perfectly. For one, neither SOB nor Abike Dabiri foreclosed the participation of others in the politics of Ikorodu. For two, legislative practice in most sane clime is built round experience and continuity, in fact, the longer a representative stays in the legislative chamber (in your view, the toilet) the better for the constituent represented and the society at large in terms of their contributions to laws that impact on the entire society. For three, I do not see the correlation between Auntie Abikes third or forth term or SOB third term bid to represent their constituency with conspiracy against Ikorodu for Governor agenda. Anybody in Ikorodu is obviously free to contest to be governor of Lagos state, that, has no bearing on legislative representation of Ikorodu constituencies in LAHA or NASS. As much as I want to reserve my comment on Ikorodu for Governor agenda, I am compelled by your conclusion to ask which Ikorodu politician(s) beyond Abike Dabiri and SOB Agunbiade, has a semblance of media presence, political network and vibrancy to at least contest for Lagos Governor?. And please dont give me names of laterday Ikorodu indigenes like Jimi Agbaje, GOS, Muiz Banire and their likes. Need I add that our (I mean Ikorodu) penchant for queue in-line, turn-by-turn and enikan o unje kilu fe politics would continue to hinder our ability to groom and produce credible and popular candidate worthy of contesting for Governor. We should all take a cursory look at the leading candidates in the contest for Governor in Lagos today, and see how long they have been in either appointive, elective, legislative and executive position in various capacities to understand my take on this matter of Ikorodu for Governor.Ikorodu for Governor agents should realise we are talking of Governor of Lagos and not Governor of Ikorodu. For four and conclusively, we should move away from premodial politics of bitterness, sentiments, selective judgement and analysis, hatred and beer parlour assessment of public officer holders performance if truly we desire good governance. My take is that (I stand to be corrected) a legislative officer holder should be judge on his/her contributions to law making for the generality if the people, and not on how many people, group, mosque or church he/she has been able to personally helped or so to say, given money. In this wise, am sure Sanity,Afeez Owodunni Amure, Wale Owodeinde, Adejare Ajayi and Tayo LaoTzu Hopewell, Ezekiel Owolabi would not in good conscience say either SOB Agunbiade or Abike Dabiri have been found wanting or being a poor representation. Hon. Abike Dabiris diaspora work has been phenomenon, her contribution to FOI Act is outstanding, she has made Ikorodu proud in the NASS, attempt to trivialise the impact of continuity in office in her performance, to me, amounts to being economical with the truth. As for SOB, without attempting to be his campaign manager (not that I would not do a better job for him than his present campaign team are doing though), a legislator at state level that initiated and contributed to well over 60 motions in the house, leading to far reaching resolutions and laws of the land, such as law establishing Vigilante groups and community security matters, laws to protect landed properties in Lagos state; criminalise and penalise the activities of Ajagungbales and many community empowerment projects and programmes can not be said not to have benefited from continuity in representation. Needless to mention his constituents and himself can and will benefits more going forward. Now to the reality of SOBs third term bid. In view of the likelihood of next Governor of Lagos emerging from Lagos East senatorial district, Epe division to be more precise (going by the leading contestants and leading party in the state), am sure it is a safe bet for Ikorodu to put its most experience legislators forward in order to at least have a formidable force in the scheme of things politically. If the Governorship seat goes to Epe division, the possibility of deputy governor, speaker of LAHA and perhaps head of the judiciary (which I think is not political) coming from Ikorodu division in the same senatorial district as Epe is highly unlikely. Well, before we begin to console ourselves with the hope of commissioner positions for Ikorodu indigenes, we should know that these appointments are at the sole discretion of the Governor in power. A discretion which can only be challenged by the LAHA legislators. Ironically, this is the same LAHA we are planning to send political and legislative novices and inexperience representative to, in the name of enikan o kije kilu fe, turn-by-turn, queue in-line shit analogy politics. So much for Ikorodu for Governor advocates!. For me, if, as it appears, Ikorodu division can NOT have any of the number one to four political positions in the state, dont we at the least deserve to position ourself to have a formidable and experience hand in the state assembly to fight our interests?. For note, all functionary positions and head of strategic statutory committee of the LAHA is exclusively preserve for experience legislators as logic dictates. Hence, and indeed SOB Agunbiade, Abike Dabiri and the not so popular Honourable representing Ikorodu constituency 2 ambition for whatever term is beyond personal ambition for any neutral, patriotic and reasonable Ikorodu indigene. For the record and clarity, I love and support the idea of Ikorodu for Governor to bits. But, the reality is that, at this present moment, politically, we dont have the candidate. However, the challenge, particularly for SOB, Abike Dabiri and all political leaders in Ikorodu, is to start now! to groom and breed young men and women in Ikorodu for governor in the future. They should empower them politically, train them morally, encourage them socially, and equip then technically and economically if need be. Who knows, when next as our politics dictates, the governorship is zoned to Lagos East Senatorial district, we too will have pletoral of credible, saleable, and experienced candidates jostling for the position. That is my take on this matter. As for the anti- third term people, I reckon you can do that without resulting to the kind of campaign of calumny, sentiments and hatred that is the hallmark if thugs, illiterates and thugs. You can print your Say NO to SOB posters and paste it anywhere, but please in the spirit if decency and sportsmanship, desist from tearing and covering SOBs campaign posters. This type of politics and campaign insights and promote conflicts and violence and most importantly underscores whatever your perceived noble intentions are. It makes your ambitions also seem personal and not really in the community interest. Like my brother Sanity would say, Be SANE!. This is my subjective and objective opinion in one piece. Everyone is entitled to hold one, if you care to respond to my opinion, please be sane NOT to be personal and abusive. Lets only have intellectual discourse. Ikorodu Oga! Eluku agbe wa o!! BM-S
