The best article that I saw about the Hong Kong protests was a piece on Global research *See the link at the bottom of the page. Yesterday I spent much of my time making comments about the nature of the protests and who stood to benefit by them. They are taking on a colour revolutionary quality which is not surprising as it is clear they are being supported by US democracy promotion NGOs like NED. This has all the hallmarks of a CANVAS led operation. They are using the CANVAS handbook of things to do to irritate your government and of course the level of organisation is clear, complete with outside communications that circumvent the authorities attempts to censor. In short I smell a democracy NGO bomb going off. Let me get one thing straight, everyone has a right to self determination, everyone should practice freedom without intimidation. Those who give there consent to be governed deserve to be governed fairly and honestly. The concerns of the elites should not override the concerns of the ordinary people. There is no place for nepotism, there is no place for despotism, there is no place for corruption. OK so now we have got that out of the way, the article I eluded to took a different stance from the general consensus in that it said that the people were in reality not protesting against a lack of democracy as much as they are protesting against Neo liberal policies imposed by nepotist corrupt elites. They are protesting that governors only pick leaders who are sensitive to the wishes of the Chinese Authorities. That they equate that relationship, that the perceived adherence to the will of Beijing is creating the conditions by which average wage for workers stagnate as prices rise disproportionately. That house prices are disproportionately priced compared to average wages and where the young cannot set foot on the housing ladder. They complain that only the concerns of the corporate elites are taken into account and that nepotist corruption is rife. I think that all of us around the so called free world can identify with those aspirations and complaints, to be rid of these corrupt leaders who think only of there own self aggrandisement, who write laws to legalise corporate robbery, who are forcing the ordinary people into poverty. And this is the thing, we can all identify with those aspirations and complaints because free world or not, democracy or not, free press or not, opportunity or not, freedom of expression or not, we are all suffering the same. I hate so say it my Hong Kong friends but there is no Shangri La, least of all the USA that so many Hong Kong people aspire to be like. It is very quickly becoming a very unequal society with just the same failings as your own. I have the feeling that you think that if you just could have the leader of your choice then everything would be better but the experience where I am sitting in the west is that it will not. The only group that you are helping by your actions is the Western world who would like nothing better than to see China in disarray. The fact is that we all stand together on this, what you are fighting is a corruption that has emanated from the west. We are all under the yoke of neo-liberal policy and you wont get away from it just by voting for your favourite candidate. We are all wondering how to tackle this development, you are not alone but please stop what you are doing because if this spreads out of control you stand to loose more than your standard of living. Please believe me when I say that we have tried everything you are trying now and it does not work. You do not here of our complaints because the media ignore us. Even most politicians ignore us and those who dont end up in the political wilderness. The media are covering your story in the west not because they agree with your aspirations so much as it angers the Chinese administration and may goad them into actions that the west can make political capital out of. The West is bankrupt and has got to the stage where it will set fires anywhere it can to distract and destroy. You stand to loose much more than you will gain from these actions. In fact we all stand to loose more than we gain. Already the Chinese Authorities are blaming outside provocation, this in itself will sour relations between the US and China even more than they are now. The US is already attempting to dominate the pacific region. It is part of their long term plan for full spectrum domination of the world. Already disputes are arising in the south china seas and the military are on full alert. Please understand, America is running out of options and is acting like a cornered dog. It sees Russia and China as rivals to be dealt with. The true economic condition of the west is faltering and failing. The US will do anything to maintain Dollar Hegemony. It is looking for a way out of its incredible debt and it is looking for an enemy to hate. China holds vast amounts of US financial paper, if they released that onto the markets in a fit of anger it would spell disaster for the western world. The US has already said that any attack on its currency is grounds for war. It is down to its last gamble and that is the military option. I am sure I neednt tell you what that would mean for all of us globalresearch.ca/the-democracy-question-hong-kongs-relationship-with-an-idea/5405830
