The best time to visit versova Beach is during the ganpati visarjan Thousands of revelers come to see the beautiful images of lord Ganesh being taken out to the sea, for bidding farewell to the elephant God whom they prayed to for the full ten days. Not only are the images but even worth seeing the groups of koli women who are dressed in their Sunday best. They come dancing to the popular tunes played by the local bands; these women are all dressed alike in same saris and jewellary. During the visarjan which starts at 5’oclock in the evening to the next day in the morning the whole beach is illuminated with flood lights and it looks like a fairy land, the sea is full of gaily decorated boats and launches which wait for the Lord to arrive to submerge Him into the sea, these boats and launches take the revelers and the images of God in the middle of the sea for visarjan. The visarjan is done in the middle of the sea exactly at the point just opposite the Shiva temple at madh island. With the music of drums and cymbals and the resounding sound of Ganpati bapa moriya. Around 300 Ganpati idols of various sizes are immersed here; these idols are immersed throughout the day. The fishermen do not go out to sea for catching fish for three days because of the visarjan of their favorite God. They have at least 40 people working around the clock for the visarjan and the boats and launches are given free of charge for the visarjan of the Ganesh idols
