The blessing of Faith (Iman) is the greatest blessing. The greatest blessing is the blessing of faith, and every created thing is a sign througj which the blessing may be attained. Allah says:"There is, in their stories, instruction for men endued with understanding...."Q12:111. "And the earth- We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and produced therein every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs)- to be observed and commemorated by every slave turning (to Allah)." Whatever happens to man that makes him happy, is an obvious blessing. But the things that harm him are also blessings, in that they are an expiation for his sins and he will be rewarded for bearing them with patience, and that they also contain wisdom and mercy of which he may not be aware: ".... But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you, and that you love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knows, and you know not."Q2:216. The Prophet(saw) said: "By Allah, Allah does not decree anything for the believer but it is good for him. If good befalls him, he gives thanks, and that is good for him, and if bad befalls him, he bear it with patience and that is also good for him." If both befall him, then both are from the blessings of Allah.
