The butcher Palparan should rot in jail -- KMU The arrest this morning of the notorious butcher retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan is a victory of the Filipino people’s relentless struggle for human rights and justice. It is also a victory of the Filipino people’s struggle against the pork barrel system and corruption in the Aquino government. We have always believed that the Aquino government coddled Palparan. Faced with the worst political crisis under its term, it was forced to surface Palparan now to try to score some brownie points from the people. We reiterate our calls: Justice for Karen Empeño, Sherlyn Cadapan, Jonas Burgos, Eden Marcellana, Eddie Gumanoy and all the numerous victims of Palparan! Justice for Mindoro, Eastern Visayas, Central Luzon! Justice for the Filipino workers and people! No special treatment should be given to this butcher. He should be tried immediately and held accountable for his crimes. He should rot in jail for all the crimes and human-rights violations that were perpetrated under his leadership in the military. The handling of his case will be a test for the Aquino government and the justice system. Aquino cannot use Palparan’s arrest to project himself as a crusader for human rights. He has not filed a single human-rights case against Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo under whose presidency Palparan served. Just last week, two activist students of the University of the Philippines were abducted but were immediately surfaced by the military. We are calling on the Filipino workers and people to continue the struggle to make Palparan accountable. Let us continue the struggle for human rights and justice!
