The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek. - Joseph Campbell So many people now dont want to face the grind that awaits them. They dont want to be criticized, disapproved by their loved ones, left with the bare minimum to survive, face the challenge of an illness, or face the inevitable that is due for us all. They want all the rewards but none of the troubles. Its because we have for so long adapted to an attitude of wanting something for nothing that we face a grinding time but dont feel like we have the resourcefulness to face it squarely. In order for things to change in any of our lives, we have to change. We have to grow and evolve or well be tossed off the board without mercy. Nobody is referred to as a genius when they are alive. They are labelled crazy, different, a crackpot, a kook, a wacko, or a fool. Mark Zuckerberg was called an asshole. Walt Disney had no original ideas. Oprah Winfrey was unfit for television. Steve Jobs was that damned, dirty hippie. Sylvester Stallone had no future in the movies. J. K. Rowling was told that there wasnt any money to be made in childrens books. Sir Richard Branson would either go to jail or become a millionaire. Arnold Schwarzenegger was told that his body wouldnt fit into the movies, his accent was too weird, and nobody would pronounce his name. Albert Einstein wouldnt amount to much. Thomas Edison was too stupid to learn anything. Meryl Streep failed to land a lead role early in her career and almost gave up because she was deemed by a director too ugly. Winston Churchill did poorly in school, spoke with a lisp, stuttered, and his parents regarded him as a disappointment; a boy of low intelligence. Bottom line is this: in order to get more than what you have, you have to relinquish any of those securities you would hold dear. Once you go through the grind, however, you will hold something that others dont. If you arent criticized, you are not striving for something that your potential is capable of achieving. If you arent given only the bare minimum to survive, you have too much clutter to recognize the essential tools you need to succeed. If you havent gotten really sick or labelled handicapped, you are not prepared for anything else out there. If you arent accepting growing as an inevitable asset, you are not mature and can not properly adapt. If you arent aware that your time is limited, you have not found something worthy enough of your potential as a human being to accomplish. If you arent in the dark night of the soul or have experienced it, prepare for it. Use it to your advantage. Youll be more surprised at what happens when you become the person who attains the treasure after you have entered the cave and slain the dragon. Embrace the Grind!
