The central working committee of Rastriya Prajatantra Party meets - TopicsExpress

The central working committee of Rastriya Prajatantra Party meets tomorrow. The party has been embroiled in conflict in the past few weeks due to sharp ideological crisis within RPP. The unity between Surya Bahadur Thapa and Pashupati Rana is based on their joint commitment towards republic, multi party democracy and the progressive changes brought about by the 2006 peoples movement. After years of isolation from political mainstream RPP with its commitment towards republic and the changes brought about the 2006 peoples movement has reclaimed its relevancy in national politics. Any change in leadership at present has to guarantee RPPs commitment towards republic and the changes brought about the 2nd peoples movement. The failure to guarantee commitment towards republic and the changes brought about the second peoples movement will prove counter productive to the constitution writing process. Lokendra Bahadur Chands attempt at securing his position as RPPs future chairman questions RPPs commitment towards republic and the changes brought about by the second peoples movement. In his recent interview to Avenues Television Chand is forthright in claiming his disappointment towards voting in favor of a republic. The coming together of Dr Lohani - who openly questioned his loss in the recent CA elections and who blamed the Nepalese Army for his loss - combined with Lokendras assertion that voting in favor of a republic is a matter of regret threatens RPPs commitments towards republic and constitutional politics. I appeal to all my friends within RPP and those outside to think wisely on this matter. The future of RPP rests on the ability of its leaders to remain committed to democratic values and to accept changes brought about after the 2006 historic peoples movement.
