The challenge of overcoming pride is its cyclic nature, that is, as we aim to attain humility, we are tempted to be proud of that very humility we seek when partially obtained. We subtly begin to pride ourselves in how humble we are. This cyclic nature of pride makes true humility one of the hardest virtues for one to obtain. No wonder C.S Lewis calls it the great sin (Mere Christianity, Chapter 8).
