The children who were murdered in Garland along with their mother, went to the same school as the kids who were killed by their father in Dexter a few years back. Domestic Violence is an epidemic. If it were influenza, a cancer, etc., people and society would demand that the CAUSE be IDENTIFIED. So, Domestic Violences symptoms occur on a regular basis...its in the News constantly. So whether the underlying cause is mental illness, addiction...why not do more to seek out the CAUSE? People in our country get more upset when an athlete shoots up steroids...but crank up the price of gas or heating oil...the attitude is the same as I see for Domestic Violence...Look the other way...and hope things get better. We pay athletes and actors millions of dollars in salaries to perform things that are meaningless...some give back to help others but not all. We have people in need who TRY to get ahead but are vilified for getting help. Christmas USED to be about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. According to the Bible which so many people wave in the air, describes Jesus as a pretty cool dude who HELPED others and didnt look down on them. A few years back at the vigil held by the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, I met a man who had been homeless and was beaten with a metal pipe once and another time was set on fire. Maybe its time as a society we get our collective thumbs out of our collective asses and DO SOMETHING!
