The clock is ticking away...I am sitting in a Clients office in Memphis, Tennessee, wondering what is going thru my little boys head...hes bound for Russia for the Jr. World Championships and will compete in all 4 contested events...I cannot be there to give him a hug and kiss before he leaves and it is heavy on my heart. I know he is 15 and is VERY capable, mature, responsible, and trustworthy, but he will always be my little Pisey - the boy who still squeezes my squishy cheeks before he goes to bed. I know he understands why we cannot go with him, but I wanted to share with you: Andres Rodriguez and I had to make the VERY TOUGH decision not to travel to Russia because of the political environment and policies against the LGBT community (we would have had to travel as private citizens rather than with the protection of Team USA). With a lot of media focused on Jordan right now, it is possible that local Russian media would report on the US Mens National Champion competing in the Jr. World Championships -- it is possible his Family scenario could be seen as propaganda in Russia and that could present an undesired risk. We thought long and hard about this, and the smallest risk of any sort of detainment or questioning is just too much risk and we didnt want there to be any distraction for Jordan (or the rest of the team for that matter). We pray that one day ALL humans will be treated as HUMAN BEINGS; we hope that one day parents will not have to choose to stay behind because governments criminalize them for being the HUMAN being they are. We pray for the day when, no matter where in the world they are, parents can be (without fear) with their child to experience the glory or comfort in the defeat. We love Jordan more than anything in the world - we will be with him every step he takes and every rip he makes! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR AMAZING DIVERS REPRESENTING THE UNITED STATES!!!
