The council meets at 7 p.m. in the Lake Elsinore Cultural Center, 183 N. Main St. It will be the first council session there in more than a year while the hall underwent renovations primarily to make the building safe during earthquakes. Yet, many more people in Inland Southern California have been injured from pit bull attacks than from earthquakes over the last decade. And more pit bulls and their mixes are impounded in animal shelters and euthanized than any other type of animal, a trend that is nationwide as well as regional, officials say. Lake Elsinore Lake, Parks and Recreation Director Pat Kilroy said in his report to the council on the proposed sterilization law that pit bulls account for about 20 percent of the dogs in Riverside County shelters and 30 percent of the euthanizations. That is true at Southwest Riverside County’s regional shelter as well, said its executive director Willa Bagwell.
