The county tax rate is flat in the preliminary 2014-15 budget Mohave County supervisors looked at Monday. The $78.2-million recommended spending plan contains a $5 million contingency fund, about $11.6 million for the sheriff’s office and almost $12 million for county jail operations. More than $9.6 million goes to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. Not included is a cost-of-living adjustment for county employees. Employees received a 2.5 percent COLA — their first raise in seven years — for the 2013-14 fiscal year, finance director John Timko said. The supervisors got their first look at the budget Monday at a special workshop. Timko said the primary property tax rate is expected to remain at $1.8196 per $100 assessed value on a home despite the decrease in property valuation for the fifth year in a row. That means the county will have about $793,000 less in revenue. The board is expected to adopt a tentative budget its July meeting and adopt a final budget Aug. 4. --Jim Seckler, The Daily News
