The crew of Multi-Trade Building Services has done a great job with this bathroom renovation. They have worked long hours and been so efficient throughout the week that they are ahead of schedule and have taken a much deserved weekend off! The rest of this week saw the installation of a new exhaust fan, the complete installation of the new bathtub, new sub floor and the Hardiebacker on all wall surfaces at the tub, ready for the installation of tile on Monday. In the pictures below you will see how caked up the old exhaust fan motor was with dirt, dust and debris. This made the exhaust fan ineffective at removing any humidity. It was also discovered that the existing fan duct work was vented into the insulation in the attic and did not vent to the exterior. This created an extremely moist environment in the attic and the potential risk of mold. We installed a new 80 CFM, 1.5 Sone exhaust fan controlled by a 60 minute timer (10 minute intervals), and on Sunday, our roofer, Scott will be installing a code compliant vent through the roof so the exhaust fan will vent to the exterior of the building. The photo below of the ABS pipe filled with gunk is what we discovered when opening up the drainage line for the bathtub. Upon further inspection, it was determined that backfall existed for the drainage which resulted in a slow running drain and the backlog of gunk you see in the ABS pipe. After obtaining consent from our client to correct the deficiency, we reworked the ABS drainage line and cleaned the pipe to ensure a free flowing drain line. Be sure to check back next week to see the new tile, vanity, toilet and shower trim kit. By next Friday, all that will be left is for the client to pick a paint colour and paint their newly renovated bathroom. Although we offer painting services as well, its always great to see clients want to be involved and play a role in the renovation project.
