The cross is not God forgetting humanity’s verdict and sentencing. The cross is God allowing His Son to be the recipient of both, in our place. The cross is a collision of divine justice and divine mercy. At the center is Jesus, acting as our lighting rod for judgment, and our conduit for mercy.
