The danger of disrespect in a hospital...being treated solely as a patient and not as a person. In a national Consumer Reports survey of 1200 people that had been hospitalilzed, they found a big link between respectful treatment and patient safety. Those who received less respect from medical staff were two and a half times as likely to experience a medical error, meaning MRSA, wrong diagnosis, adverse drug reaction or a prescribing mistake vs those who were treated with respect. What am I saying? Demand respect in a respectful manner, ask questions, tell of your concerns, fear and wishes. Dont worry about being a pest.Insist on a plan of care, in layman terms, and write it down. Take an active role in your care, if you are not interrested , neither will your caretakers be. Just something to think about.
