The dark times continued to plague The Birds as they had no team competing in the uMhlumayo Football Association which was formed by the late Mbazo Bazooka Sithole, Ndabezitha With Sithole ( current chief of the Sithole Tribal Authority at uMhlumayo ), Buselaphi MaNdlovu Ndlovu and others. The team only had a young generation of players who were still playing as an U/19 side in the village. The team had the likes of Wandile Wonder Boy Sithole, Manqoba Chippa Sithole and Nduduzo Tau Nkomo. Upon seeing that the players were matured enough to compete in the upper League Sandile Sdumo Thwala visited the young players on one of their training sessions. Sdumo told them about his desires to re-invent the team and said that he would ask for sponsorship from former players like DZ Sithole and the then mayor of uThukela District MR MS Sithole. The players agreed and that is when the beginig of a reinvention of Might Birds prevailed. Sdumo however left the team for his work duties in Durban. When he left the then Body Guard of Mr MS Sithole Zambuhle Mdonsi Sithole took over as a coach and the chairman of the team. In the next article we will take you through Malumes ( as he was affectionately known by the players ) journey with the team and his subsequent firing in 2010 by senior players like Vumani and Jeje who led the protest against his tactics.
