The day that the Malaysian Airlines Flight was shot down was - TopicsExpress

The day that the Malaysian Airlines Flight was shot down was exactly 20 years to the day that TWA flight 800 was shot down over Long Island. 20 years ago one of Howard Sterns merry pranksters called up one of the news networks and did his perennial prank of pretending to be a witness and then proceeding to act like a fool on the air. The same thing happened the day of the shoot down to MSNBC host Krystal Ball. Quite Franklin after 20 years this has gotten really really old. Then when caught, Sterns supporters try to hide behind the clam of satire and anti political correctness. In fact, basically its his fans and supporters being A**holes. Stern is not funny and never has been and his supporters know it. Anyway, I wrote this in response to one of his supporters who fell back on the lame old defenses. By the way, lets take a moment to do something that has been drastically needed for a long time. We need to quit equating the condemnation of bad behavior with political correctness. Some shit is just bad behavior. and yes we are talking about you MickeyDugan! I like Bill Maher. But with free speech comes responsibility. You arent free from condemnation because there is a first amendment. So sometimes Bill says things he shouldnt say and then people blow up at him and he retreats into the shell defense of anti political correctness. In a very good article stuffwhitepeopledo.blogspot/2010/03/descri... kind of explains the syndrome as to why they do it. because they dont like having their buzz harsher. Now there are valid complaints to be made about criticizing speech. BUT THERE ARE VALID REASONS FOR CRITICIZING SOME BAD SPEECH AS WELL! Sometimes its ok not to to say the first dumb stupid piece of shit thing that comes to mind. If you like infantile humor then you are free to like it. What you are not free to do is to think that the rest of the world cant comment on it when you display your love of for it in public. But the second thing is that and this is what bothers me about Sterns defenders is that it sort of displays a remarkably self centered lack of awareness about the world around them. Then when caught they try to hide behind the spurious claim of satire. Good Satire is aimed at the powerful. Bad Satire is aimed at the powerless. That is why Stern deserved to be fired after the Air Florida stunt. Just exactly who the target of this event is unclear and so badly aimed that no one can really tell who the target is! Ball and MSNBC where covering a story. What would prompt a Stern Fan or whatever it was to suddenly interject himself here or in the other incidents is inexplicable. Its like a monkey flinging shit out of his cage. There may be a point to it and it even spreads fertilizer around. But if no one else understands the point of the act that it becomes some insular frat joke. Funny only to those in on the secret and obscure to the rest of us and therefore ineffective as a message. And that is why frat boy humor gets knocked around. You dress up a group of middle class and upper middle class and rich white kids as slaves and well that kind of goes over like pork at Ramadan. What is the point? So if we put a harsh on your buzz, let me offer you and Howard Stern some advice. Dont want to be criticized for the dumb shit you do? you might try to actually be funnier next time! and last thing. Lets not redo the same joke over and over again for 20 years and try to claim its funny. Henny Youngman didnt keep saying take my wife please for years because it was funny. He did it because people expected it. Mkay? Oh and let me add a personal point here. The internet police will scream because I capitalized something in the body of this text. Unfortunately unlike in plain English there is no OED of internet usage so if you dont like it shut up!
