The debate about the Los Angeles River goes on... Regardless of the current effort to go green with the Los Angeles River, either it will continue to serve an invaluable role in flood management, or we will have to relocate millions of people and homes and businesses and streets and freeways (you get the idea!) - because one thing the BBC article overlooked is the fact that during those extreme storms in the 1930s, the LA River did what it does when its a natural river - the mouth of the river whip-lashed from Ballona Creek in Santa Monica, to the current mouth in Long Beach. Thats 30 miles! Before a concrete straight jacket was put on the river, the coastal wetlands that used to welcome storm runoff, regardless of the force, or where the river decided to empty into the ocean, more than 70 years ago, must have been beautiful. But can you imagine the force required to change the whole course of the LA River from Santa Monica to Long Beach? Talk about swift water! Talk about floodwaters... whew! bbc/news/science-environment-30456672
