The denial of our inner rage under the formulaic pietistic covering of forgiveness often does our mental health no favours. With frozen anger comes trapped energy, an energy that will find expression no matter how consciously forgiving we are. For true healing to take place the rage must be acknowledged and given a safe route of expression. Only then can we truly forgive ourselves and others. The exorcisms of the Nazarene often followed this therapeutic model. Dylan Morrison
